WMSV-FM 91.1 implements major upgrades
As it enters the 23rd year of public service to listeners at Mississippi State and a 70-mile radius, university radio station WMSV is benefiting from key upgrades. A 24/7 non-commercial operation, the professionally managed station at 91.1 on the FM dial has replaced the original broadcast transmitter in use since 1994. “This represents a generational upgrade of the university’s basic radio broadcast equipment,” said MSU Chief Communications Officer Sid Salter.

SMART presentation set for Tuesday meeting
In 2012, city of Starkville and Mississippi State leaders announced plans for the university’s shuttle system to expand into the community, creating SMART. Since January 2014, 2.16 million riders have used the free service on campus and in the community. As SMART continues to grow, the system is developing a new application for funding from the Mississippi Department of Transportation Public Transportation Division's Rural Area Program to provide enhanced public transportation services for Starkville and Oktibbeha County. A public hearing will be held about the grant application at Starkville City Hall on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

PCSW for annual award nominations due Friday
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 PCSW Awards Program, sponsored by the President's Commission on the Status of Women at Mississippi State. These awards recognize individuals both on and off campus with notable achievements in promoting the status of women, and who are advocates for the well-being, development and advancement of all women of MSU's campuses and surrounding communities. All nominations are due by Friday at noon.

New opportunities with Maroon Volunteer Center
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community on its website and in its newsletter this week, including the National Eating Disorder Awareness Walk, Mississippi Delta Alternative Spring Break, the MSU Big Event on April 1, Reading Across America, the Emerson Family Resource Center, and tutoring at the Christian Women's Job Corps, and more.

Register now for ‘The Future of Water’ SEC Academic Conference at The Mill at MSU
Early-bird registration ends soon for the 2017 SEC Academic Conference examining “The Future of Water” March 27-28 at Mississippi State. Headlined by three renowned keynote speakers, the event also will feature more than 60 speakers and panelists representing all 14 SEC institutions. Organizers are encouraging participants to register by Wednesday to receive the early-bird discount. Regular online registration continues through March 26.

CASE III honors Public Affairs with 'Grand' awards
Mississippi State University’s Office of Public Affairs is the recipient of two top honors from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District III. Competing against 125 public and private higher education institutions in nine southern states, OPA garnered “Grand” awards in the organization’s annual competition that recognizes the best work among development, alumni and communications/marketing professionals. MSU President Mark E. Keenum said the CASE III awards presented to OPA represented a “significant win for the entire university.”

Dampier named as endowed chair of cyber security
David Dampier, a professor in Bagley College’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been named the Mary Lyn and Niles Moseley Endowed Chair of Cyber Security. “I am honored beyond imagination to receive this great honor,” Dampier said. “I have been blessed in my academic career, but this recognition brings that career to a pinnacle that I could never imagine would have happened.”

NASPA honors McRae for veterans advocacy
Col. Ken McRae (Ret.), director of Mississippi State University's G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans, is receiving national recognition for going "above and beyond" as an advocate for veterans on college campuses. "MSU's Center for America’s Veterans is a leading example of how to support student veterans and our military affiliated students," MSU Vice President for Student Affairs Regina Hyatt said. "Ken McRae's leadership of this great department continues to be innovative and visionary."

Robichaux-Davis assumes leadership post with regional body
A veteran faculty member in Mississippi State’s College of Education is the new president-elect of the Mid-South Educational Research Association. Rebecca R. Robichaux-Davis was named to the leadership position during the association’s recent annual meeting in Mobile, Alabama. She currently is one of two Mississippi representatives on the MSERA Foundation’s board of directors. For the first time in its history, the association will hold its annual gathering this year in Starkville at The Mill at MSU.
