Dampier named as endowed chair of cyber security

David Dampier, a professor in Bagley College’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been named the Mary Lyn and Niles Moseley Endowed Chair of Cyber Security.
“I am honored beyond imagination to receive this great honor,” Dampier said. “I have been blessed in my academic career, but this recognition brings that career to a pinnacle that I could never imagine would have happened.”
Dampier earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Texas at El Paso, followed by both a master’s and doctoral degree in computer science from the Naval Postgraduate School. He also spent 23 years in the U.S. Army prior to coming to Mississippi State University in 2000.
In addition to his role as professor, Dampier currently serves as the director for three institutes on the Mississippi State campus -- the Distributed Analytics and Security Institute, the Center for Computer Security Research and the National Forensics Training Center.
The Mary Lyn and Niles Moseley Endowed Chair of Cyber Security was established by its namesakes. The California couple have supported several areas of the MSU campus, including Moseley Hall, a residence hall in Zacharias Village, and the Niles and Mary Lyn Moseley Plaza and Fountain, located between Simrall Electrical Engineering Building and the Stennis Institute of Government.
