Monday ticket deadline for Wiseman tribute
Monday is the deadline to order tickets for the scholarship fundraiser honoring W. Martin "Marty" Wiseman, recently retired director of Mississippi State's John C. Stennis Institute of Government and Community Development. Open to all, the dinner takes place 6-9 p.m. May 22 at Starkville's Hilton Garden Inn. Individual tickets are $35; $25 for students.

Faculty leadership program seeks nominations
In the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year, the Office of Research and Economic Development and the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President at Mississippi State will again be conducting an Academic Leadership Orientation Program for selected faculty. Nominations for the program are being accepted through May 30.

Temporary closure to Bell Island for vehicles
On May 11, Bell Island -- which includes Tracy Drive, Walker Road and a section of Lee Boulevard -- was closed to accommodate infrastructure improvements related to the construction of the new classroom building on Mississippi State University's Starkville campus. Tracy Drive is closed at the entrance to the Lloyd-Ricks-Watson Building gated parking lot. This closure is expected to remain in place through May 21.

Keenum elected to IFDC board of directors
Mississippi State President Mark E. Keenum has been elected to a three-year term on the International Fertilizer Development Center board of directors. "Dr. Keenum's legacy of leadership in agricultural forums is a welcome addition to our board," said Amit Roy, IFDC president and CEO. "His career has been shaped by his dedication to the wellbeing of farmers worldwide."
Kundu earns competitive NSF CAREER grant
A chemical engineer at Mississippi State University has earned a top research-funding award from one of the National Science Foundation's most prestigious programs. Santanu Kundu, an assistant professor in the Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, received an NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award. The grant will provide more than $500,000 of funding over the next five years to support research into the mechanical properties of polymer gels.
Faculty members receive university-wide recognition
Meghan Millea, Mississippi State professor of finance and economics, recently was named a John Grisham Master Teacher during the university's 2014 Faculty Awards and Recognition Program. Additionally, four departmental faculty in the colleges of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Business, and Bagley College of Engineering, and a staff member in the College of Veterinary Medicine, received awards.
New university endowment honors Keith
A $150,000 gift by social fraternity and sorority organizations at Mississippi State is creating the Edwin M. Keith Jr. Greek Excellence Endowment at the university. The recent contribution to the MSU Foundation honors the associate dean of students and adjunct professor who retires June 30 after 25 years of service to his alma mater.
