Library speaker series features MEC president
Mississippi State's Morris W.H. "Bill" Collins Speaker Series continues Monday with an address by Blake A. Wilson, president and chief executive officer of the Mississippi Economic Council. Free and open to all, the 3 p.m. university event takes place in Mitchell Memorial Library's John Grisham Room.
Hardin to deliver annual humanities lecture
Mississippi State's 2013 Humanities Teacher of the Year will speak Monday at a public campus program. The presentation by James Hardin, associate professor of anthropology and Middle Eastern cultures at the university, begins at 3 p.m. in the Forum Room of Griffis Residence Hall. An MSU alumnus who holds a doctoral degree from the University of Arizona, he said his address "will bring together archaeological, ethnographic, textual, and historical data to understand better a particular household in southern Judah in the 8th century BCE."
Seminar examines student's espionage plight
Was Glenn Duffie Shriver a naive young college student or a cold calculating individual out to gain all he could for himself even if it meant betraying his country? As part of its fall seminar series, the Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State University presents "Game of Pawns: The Glenn Duffie Shriver Story" on Monday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Bost Extension Center theater.
Service-learning project showcase Wednesday
The Center for the Advancement for Service-Learning Excellence and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University will be hosting a showcase of service-learning projects on Wednesday [Nov. 20] at 3 p.m. in Bost Auditorium. Students in Alta Knizley's ME 1111 class will be presenting projects they have been working on with various community partners this semester.
ConventionSouth honors MSU Riley Center
The MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian has been honored with a 2013 Readers’ Choice Award from ConventionSouth magazine. "We are very proud of this great honor," said Dennis S. Sankovich, the executive director of the MSU Riley Center. This is the third time that the center has received the award. Throughout the year, meeting professionals nominated the meeting sites they believe provide exemplary service for group events.
