Horstemeyer earns SEC Achievement Award
A Bagley College of Engineering professor received a regional award for his commitment to teaching, research and scholarship. Mark F. Horstemeyer, a professor and the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems chair in computational solid mechanics, has earned the 2015 Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Award for Mississippi State.
Adkerson completes advanced PGA certification
The leader of Mississippi State's PGA Golf Management academic program now holds advanced certification status with the Professional Golfers' Association of America. Jeff Adkerson became director in 2007 after serving as assistant director for four years. He is a 1999 marketing/PGM graduate of the university's College of Business, where he also completed an MBA in 2005.
Finalists for Student Affairs VP named
Finalists for the position of vice president for Student Affairs at Mississippi State University have been announced by the search committee. The four candidates will visit MSU for on-campus interviews during the weeks of April 13 and 20. Finalists also will participate in open forums to include a brief presentation by each candidate followed by a question-and-answer session.
Federal patent official visiting campus Monday
An official with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will be visiting Mississippi’s flagship research university this week. Mississippi State will host Asad Nawaz on Monday for a series of meetings with engineering and business students, as well as a public lecture. He is a supervising examiner working with the USPTO's Office of Innovation Development.

'I Bleed Maroon' blood drive underway
Mississippi State campus radio station WMSV 91.1 FM and United Blood Services are hosting a week-long blood drive event this week -- believed to be the first of its kind. “I Bleed Maroon” consists of nine blood drives in six days at bloodmobiles located throughout campus and in Starkville.
Suicide prevention training offered April 21
The Work Life Balance Committee at Mississippi State is partnering with Staff Council and the Mississippi Coalition of Partners in Prevention for two QPR suicide prevention workshops for faculty and staff on April 21. QPR stands for question, persuade and refer -- three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.

With local and statewide political campaigning underway this year, Mississippi State's Office of General Counsel reminds employees to be aware of the university's policy on political activities. There are several basic guidelines that university employees should keep in mind when engaging in any form of political activity.
