May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Student Counseling Services and Human Resources Management at Mississippi State University are partnering for Mental Health Awareness Month. To highlight the importance of mental wellness, several workshops have been scheduled, including:

Healthy Communication
Tuesday, May 29
Presented by Dr. Ari Oliveros, Staff Counselor

This workshop is for anyone who wants to learn ways to improve relationships and healthy communication. Come learn about identifying what you really need, expressing yourself, and navigating conflict with care. Be ready to participate actively in this hands-on event.

Aging Parents: Normal Aging, Mood Disorders, and Dementia
Thursday, May 31
Presented by Dr. Nathalie Lara, Clinical Director/Staff Psychiatrist

Adapting to life's changes is a continuous process of challenge, learning, and acceptance. Some of these changes are part of normal aging. Other changes may result in marked functional impairment and affect not only the life of the elderly but also the life of the caregivers. This workshop provides basic understanding about the normal aging process, information about the recognition, and management of mood disorders and dementia in the elderly.

All of the workshops will be held in Room 409 of the Bost Extension Center. Sessions will begin at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each session will last for approximately one hour.
