Bagley 'spirit,' publications earn statewide honors
The state public relations association got a dose of Bagley spirit earlier this month when the college of engineering's publications and homecoming tailgate event, including the Spirit-O-Meter, earned recognition at its annual conference in Columbus.
During the Public Relations Association of Mississippi's 2012 PRism Awards, the Bagley College of Engineering publications and communications staff received three awards.
The BCoE Homecoming Tailgate earned a Judge's Choice Award for what they called "an extremely creative" tool. The tailgate featured Engineering Our State t-shirt giveaways, as well as the Spirit-O-Meter, a machine designed by associate professor J.W. Bruce to measure the intensity with which someone can ring a cowbell. Judge's choices award winners are selected from the competition's entire pool of entries. Only two are presented each year.
Other work receiving recognition includes Momentum, the college's annual magazine, which earned an Award of Excellence in the special purpose publications category, and the quarterly electronic newsletter won a PRism for electronic publications. A PRism is the highest award given in each category.
The publications office consist of publications manager Heather Rowe, who received individual recognition for her pro bono work with the Oktibbeha County Humane Society; Susan Lassetter, publications editor, and Todd Dickey, communications specialist.
PRAM consists of approximately 600 public relations professionals from advertising and public relations agencies, corporations, non-profit organizations, government agencies, and education institutions. A complete list of its 2012 award winners can be downloaded at www.pramonline.org.
