Cristil, Salter signing books before home games
Jack Cristil and author Sid Salter will be selling and signing Salter's just-released biography of the university's legendary sports announcer before Mississippi State's two remaining home football games this month.
"Jack Cristil: Voice of the Mississippi State Bulldogs" was released last week by Pediment Publishing of Battle Ground, Wash. The 224-page hardcover edition covers both the life and broadcasting career of the Tupelo resident who provided football and basketball play-by-play descriptions over a nearly six-decade career.
In addition to the $39.95 book, purchasers will receive a free audio of Cristil's most memorable calls. Cash, check and debit/credit cards are accepted.
Cristil and Salter will be set up under a tent adjacent to the MSU Alumni Association tent in the Junction. The tents are located just south of the Davis Wade Stadium ticket office.
Times for the Nov. 12 and 26 Southeastern Conference home contests against, respectively, the universities of Alabama and Mississippi, have not been announced.
All of the direct book-sale proceeds support the Jacob S. "Jack" Cristil Scholarship in Journalism established earlier this year in the communication department. Salter, a veteran newspaper editor and columnist, began writing the book after he joined the university as journalist in residence.
