The newest technology and machinery used to advance the South’s timber industry will be demonstrated August 26-27 at the Mid-South Forestry Equipment Show.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Held at the John W. Starr Memorial Forest off Highway 25 south of Starkville, the show is sponsored by Mississippi State University’s College of Forest Resources, Hatton-Brown Publishers Inc., the Mississippi Loggers Association and the Mississippi Forestry Association.
The biennial event is the longest-running live, in-wood demonstration of forestry equipment in the South.
A record 90 vendors and exhibitors will participate in this year’s event. Attendees can compete for prizes in the skidder contest sponsored by John Deere and Stribling Equipment and the loader contest sponsored by Tigercat and B&G Equipment. Exhibitors have many special offerings planned, some of which will benefit the Log-A-Load for Kids charity.
The show also will feature a children’s area with games such as the Little Folks Skidder Contest, the Log Rolling Contest and the Sawdust Pile of Prizes.
Loggers, landowners and timber professionals can receive training and earn continuing education credits by attending courses in timber improvement, technology and equipment financing, among others.
The Mississippi Loggers Association is sponsoring two $1,000 door prize drawings on Saturday. All paid attendees will be automatically entered in the drawings and must be present to win.
Admission is $15 for those who pre-register prior to August 14 and $20 at the gate. Spouses and children under 18 are admitted free with a paid attendee. To view a schedule of events or pre-register, visit www.midsouthforestry.org.
