BCoE honors Dampier, Donohoe and Walters
The Bagley College of Engineering recently recognized three faculty members for their impact on the state, contributions to engineering and ability to secure competitive research funding.
Keith Walters, Dave Dampier and Pat Donohoe were presented with the BCoE's top faculty research, service and career achievement awards respectively during a dinner at Old Waverly in West Point.
An associate professor in mechanical engineering, Walters conducts research in computation fluid dynamics through the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems. Since coming to Mississippi State in 2003 he has authored 37-refereed technical publications and helped secure $22.3 million in research funding. He currently serves as coordinator of the National Science Foundation's Mississippi EPSCoR biological systems simulation coordinator overseeing eight researchers at three universities.
Dave Dampier is an associate professor in the computer science and engineering department and director of the Southeast Region Forensics Training Center. In that role he has helped establish programs that have provided digital forensics training to more than 4,000 law enforcement officers from over 30 states and veterans of America's military. He was instrumental in helping develop the Cyber Crime Fusion Center with the Mississippi Attorney General's Office. These services have helped reduce the stain on agencies that process digital evidence and aided in the conviction of child pornographers, identity thieves, and other high-tech criminals across the country.
Over the course of his 30-year career, which he began after he earned a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State, Pat Donohoe has established a track record of leadership and dedication to the electrical engineering field. As a principle and co-principle investigator he has secured more than $24 million in research funding. He has authored more than 75 published papers and conference proceedings and has secured two patents. Since 1992 he has held a variety IEEE leadership positions including editor of some of the organization's professional publications.
He officially joined the Mississippi State faculty in 1986 as an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering. He worked his way up the faculty ranks and was promoted to professor in 2001. Among the numerous honors he has earned while at State he most recently was awarded the 2010 StatePride Faculty Award and the 2010 Hearin Faculty Excellence Award.
The BCoE presents faculty, staff and student research awards at the conclusion of each academic year. Winners are nominated by fellow faculty and staff and chosen by a multi-disciplinary committee. The remainder of the college's research awards were presented during the annual faculty and staff picnic.
