A member of the computer science and engineering faculty earned recognition for her dedication to the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State.
Sarah Lee, director of undergraduate studies for the department, received the 2014 Service Award at an awards ceremony earlier this month.
Since joining the BCoE in 2011, Lee has served as an instructor and mentor for undergraduates. She also coordinates events to help students prepare for their careers including Sit with Me, an annual event that gives students an opportunity to connect with professionals.
Lee also works to introduce K-12 students to computing and encourage women to pursue careers in the field. She has developed a relationship between her department and the National Center for Women in Information Technology and sponsors the regional Aspirations in Computing award for high school girls. She also helped create Bulldog Bytes, a residential summer camp for middle school girls.
Before coming to Mississippi State, Lee spent more than 19 years with FedEx Corp., in the company’s information technology division. She holds a bachelor’s in business administration with a concentration in computer information systems from the Mississippi University for Women. She earned a master’s in computer science from Mississippi State and a doctoral degree in the same field from the University of Memphis.
The BCoE Service Award is presented to a faculty member who impacts not only the engineering program, but the university as a whole. The recipient of the award is chosen from nominations by faculty, staff and students.
