Keith to serve on TVA resource council

The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced the appointment of 19 people to serve on the agency’s new Regional Energy Resource Council to advise TVA on current and future energy activities.
Jason Keith, director of Mississippi State University's Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering and the MSU Energy Institute, is among the appointees.
The council members, approved by TVA President and CEO Bill Johnson, reflect a broad range of stakeholder views and backgrounds, representing environmental, industrial, business, consumer, educational and community leadership interests.
The TVA board of directors established the citizens’ advisory panel in April to provide input and perspective on TVA’s energy resources and to become a formal channel for receiving diverse views on energy policy on a regular basis.
“TVA wants to ensure that it manages the power system with all public interests in mind,” said Joe Hoagland, TVA vice president and chief technology officer. “The council will provide valuable advice as TVA develops polices and strategies associated with our future.”
Council members will serve without compensation for a two-year term. The council will meet approximately twice annually. Its first meeting is tentatively scheduled for October.
Keith joined MSU's Bagley College of Engineering faculty in 2011. He holds a doctorate from the University of Notre Dame and a bachelor's degree from the University of Akron.
Recently, he received the David Himmelblau Award for a decade of work in developing hydrogen fuel cell and energy education modules. This award is sponsored by the Computing and Systems Technology division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). It recognizes a group or individual for creating and further developing new ideas for computing aids in chemical engineering education.
In addition to AIChE, he is also a member of the American Society of Engineering Education, which selected him as the 2008 Raymond W. Fahien Award. He also serves as a trustee for the CACHE corporation.
