Benefits open enrollment begins Tuesday
Starting Tuesday, benefits open enrollment will be available for eligible Mississippi State University employees. Open enrollment is required only if you are adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage. If you aren’t adding new coverage, changing existing coverage or canceling coverage, you do not need to participate in open enrollment, and your current benefits will continue into 2014.
ITAR and OPSEC training blitz starts next week
The Office of Research Security at Mississippi State is having an ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and OPSEC (Operations Security) training blitz during October and November. There will three presentations of "Working with ITAR" and "OPSEC - What, Who, Why, When and How." The presentations will be conducted at the High Performance Computing Collaboratory in the Cochran Research Park.
Tee time! Communication department seeks golfers
Mississippi State's communication department is announcing its seventh annual golf tournament to raise funds for university scholarships. "This year, we again are dedicating tournament proceeds to our Lora Defore Memorial Scholarships that support student internships around the country," said department head John Forde. "We hope to attract up to 120 players this year, which would greatly increase our scholarship funds."
Meet the Blind event, new volunteer opportunities
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community in its current newsletter, including Meet the Blind, Starkville High School, Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity, the MSU Statewide School, and more.
Cross-college, interdisciplinary proposals sought
The Office of Research and Economic Development is again soliciting proposals from Mississippi State faculty who desire to create interdisciplinary, cross-college research groups on campus. These grants will be in the amount of $2,000 each and limited to a period of 12 months (renewable one time for a total of 24 months and $4,000). The grants are intended to facilitate interdisciplinary interaction between faculty and students that have a common research theme.
SEC visiting faculty travel grant applications wanted
The Southeastern Conference Visiting Faculty Travel Grant Program is intended to enhance faculty collaboration that stimulates scholarly initiatives between SEC universities. Mississippi State University can select a maximum of four faculty members to receive 2014 travel grants of $2,500 each for transportation, room, board, etc., to use for travel to another SEC campus. Completed applications must be submitted by Oct. 11.
Traveling contemporary art show comes to campus
The exhibit "Herb and Dorothy: A Glimpse into their Extraordinary Collection" will run through Oct. 18 in the McComas Hall gallery on the Mississippi State University campus. Sponsored by the College of Architecture, Art and Design's art department, the show will include a guided gallery talk by Mississippi Museum of Art curator Beth Batton.
Library exhibit honors cowbell tradition
Mitchell Memorial Library's latest exhibit pays homage to the cowbell, one of Mississippi State University's most beloved traditions. Items on display include double ringers from the University Archives collection, personal cowbells from the library's faculty and staff, and a sample of the cowbell collection of Sid Salter, director of University Relations at Mississippi State. The exhibit will run through October.

MSU Athletics and Information Technology Services, in conjunction with the MSU Alumni Association, have again partnered for the Gameday website at www.hailstate.com/gameday. It is designed to be a one-stop site that lists all activities, including operating hours for major units such as Barnes & Noble Bookstore and Dining Services, along with contacts and other key information.
