LEDGER: State could take a big hit
An editorial in the Ledger notes: "As outlined on the front of the Perspective Section... Mississippi stands to take a big hit if Congress goes through with its plans to cut funding and end 'earmarks.'
At Mississippi State, for example, these annual competitively awarded 'earmarked' grants account for nearly 70 percent of the school's research funding.
These 'earmarks' have helped recruit industry to the state, including providing funds for research used by Nissan, Toyota, GE Aviation and American Eurocopter."
