Brewster joins football staff as receivers coach

Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen has named former University of Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster to his staff. Brewster, who will coach wide receivers, coached the Golden Gophers from 2007 to 2010 before spending the 2011 season as a college football analyst for Fox Sports.
"Tim is a veteran football coach with extensive experience both in college and the NFL. His tremendous amount football knowledge and ability to teach made him the perfect choice to join our staff at this time," Mullen said. "He'll hit the ground running as we get ready for Jackson State."
Brewster was a two-time All-Big Ten Conference selection while playing tight end at the University of Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree in political science from Illinois in 1983. Brewster began his college coaching career as a graduate assistant at Purdue and earned his first full-time position at the University of North Carolina in 1989. He coached tight ends, special teams and served as recruiting coordinator from 1989-1997 before coaching tight ends at the University of Texas from 1998-2001.
After a five-year stint in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos, Brewster was named head coach at Minnesota in 2007. Brewster has coached in 11 bowl games and led the Golden Gophers to the Insight Bowl in both 2008 and 2009.
"I appreciate the opportunity Coach Mullen is giving me here at Mississippi State," Brewster said. "The staff here has done a great job, and I'm going to catch up as quickly as possible."
The Bulldogs open the 2012 season against Jackson State on Sept. 1. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
