Barnes & Noble celebrating expansion Sept. 7
Following a renovation over the summer break, the Barnes & Noble bookstore at Mississippi State University will host a day of celebration on Friday, Sept. 7, starting at 9 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the MSU Spirit Shop expansion is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. with Athletic Director Scott Stricklin and Vice President for Student Affairs Bill Kibler.
Fulbright expanding at Mississippi State
The MSU International Institute welcomes associate professor Jane Britt Greenwood, AIA, as Mississippi State University's second Fulbright faculty representative. In addition to maintaining her position in the School of Architecture, Greenwood will partner with Stephen Cottrell in serving faculty and undergraduate students interested in becoming members of the Fulbright family.
HPC2 using social media to share and inform
The High Performance Computing Collaboratory at Mississippi State University has expanded its outreach program to include an enhanced presence on social media websites, including Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. In addition to posting news and events on HPC2-affiliated sites, the social media channels provide additional opportunities to share and inform, according to Publications Manager Debbie McBride.

With political campaigns for the White House and other federal offices well underway for the Nov. 6 general election, Mississippi State's Office of General Counsel reminds employees to be aware of the university's policy on political activities.
Volunteer for 9/11 National Day of Service
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community in its current newsletter, including the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, Get Swept Up Starkville on Aug. 29, the Clothesline Project, Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity, and more.
Food security conference on campus Sept. 10
Several of the world’s leading authorities in food production, safety, and security will gather for a daylong conference exploring “Technology Implementation at the Local Level: Food Security for the Future” at Mississippi State University in September. MSU’s International Institute will host the symposium in Colvard Student Union's Foster Ballroom on Monday, Sept. 10. It will cover a wide range of topics.
University hosting October PERS seminar
Human Resources Management at Mississippi State is hosting a PERS pre-retirement, full-day seminar on Oct. 3, 2012, at Bost Extension Center. The seminar offers general information on a range of topics, including estate planning, Mississippi Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust, Social Security benefits, and PERS benefits and options. The seminar is available to any covered PERS member at no cost, but pre-registration is required.

Soccer opens play in the Southern Miss Tournament against Georgia State on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in Hattiesburg, and plays ULM at 12:30 p.m. on Monday... Volleyball opens play in the USC Tournament in Los Angeles against Boston College on Friday at 8 p.m., and then plays Northern Iowa on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Southern Cal at 10 p.m.... Cross Country is on the road to Rome, Ga., on Saturday for the Berry College-University of the South Invitational... Football opens the 2012 season against Jackson State in Davis Wade Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.
