'Flat Stanley' to entertain families at MSU Riley Center

“The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” cast takes the MSU Riley Center stage this Friday night.

Jeff Brown’s beloved children’s book “Flat Stanley” was written in 1964 and has become a literary and pop cultural phenomenon. The musical stage adaptation has followed in the book’s successful footsteps by receiving national critical acclaim.

Bring the family and enjoy the Dallas Children’s Theater On Tour as they present “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley” at the MSU Riley Center in downtown Meridian on Friday [Oct. 3] at 7 p.m.

Stanley Lambchop is your ordinary, everyday, run-of-the-mill 10-year-old: normal mom and dad, normal little brother, normal life. That's just the problem -- for Stanley, life is too normal. He wants to travel the world, do something amazing, something no one's ever seen before.

One night, the bulletin board on the wall above Stanley's bed comes loose and falls right on top of Stanley. The next morning, Stanley Lambchop wakes up flat. Not just a little flat -- really, really flat. In a whirlwind musical travelogue, Stanley -- the ultimate exchange student -- scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem and learns that heroes come in all shapes and sizes.

This Broadway-style musical comedy emphasizes the importance of family and the merits of being different.

Tickets are $18 and $10 at the MSU Riley Center box office, which is open from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets can be purchased online at www.msurileycenter.com or by calling the box office at 601-696-2200.
