Rivals unite to support Special Olympics
The Unified Ole Miss flag football team brought home the trophy and Mississippi State outraised its rival in donations, but every player earned a medal and bragging rights in the first Special Olympics Mississippi Unified Egg Bowl, held at MSU’s Sports Club fields last week. MSU Chief Communications Officer Sid Salter served as emcee for the first Unified Egg Bowl, while special guest speaker Scott Sticklin, MSU’s athletic director, inspired the teams and crowd and led the coin toss.

Bagley to launch petroleum engineering program
The Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State will offer the state's only degree in petroleum engineering. "I am delighted that we have been granted approval to again offer a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering," said Jerry Gilbert, Mississippi State's provost and executive vice president. Interim dean Jason Keith said this new curriculum was proposed in response to a high demand for graduates with experience in drilling, production, petroleum economics and reservoir engineering.

Barnes & Noble sets Thanksgiving Week hours
The Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Mississippi State has set hours for Thanksgiving Week. The store will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday, it will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and reopen on Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store will also be open on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MSU Foundation's 2015 calendar sale underway
The 2015 Mississippi State hanging wall calendar is now available from the MSU Foundation. This window to MSU features a sleek, modern design, with 13 beautiful campus scenes. Featuring images by the university's own award-winning photographers, it's truly a one-of-a-kind treasure.

Give thanks and volunteer this month
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community in its newsletter this week. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to make a difference by volunteering this fall.

International working group grant program open
The International Institute is requesting proposals from faculty and research and Extension staff interested in creating interdisciplinary, cross-college international working groups at Mississippi State. The main goal of this competitive program is to encourage interdisciplinary international research. A secondary goal of the program is to expand and catalyze established international partnerships.

University Health Services at Mississippi State reminds the campus community of several important policies for its patients to keep in mind when seeking treatment, parking, refilling a prescription online, and privacy.

This Week in Mississippi State Sports, 11/24/14
Men's Basketball hosts Clayton State at 7 p.m. on Monday, and then travels to Texas for the Corpus Cristi Coastal Challenge tipping off on Friday at 8:30 p.m. against St. Louis and on Saturday against Bradley or TCU at a time to be announced... Women's Basketball hosts Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and is on the road for a 2 p.m. tipoff against New Orleans on Saturday... Volleyball hosts Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and visits Auburn for a noon match on Saturday... Football travels to Oxford for the Egg Bowl on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Hall named associate dean for CAAD
An internationally recognized architect is the new associate dean of Mississippi State University's College of Architecture, Art, and Design. In his new role, Greg G. Hall will be focusing on scholarship and research efforts that support the college's faculty members, departments and two research centers. He also will have additional administrative duties. Hall comes to MSU from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Bagley welcomes Blaine as new fundraiser
Starkville native Jan R. Blaine is the new assistant director of development for Mississippi State's James Worth Bagley College of Engineering. He began fundraising duties with the university last week. Blaine is an MSU alumnus who graduated, cum laude, in 2009 with degrees in general business administration and sports communication, followed by an MBA the following year.

A&S Researcher of the Month: Michael Nadorff
The College of Arts and Sciences at Mississippi State has named Michael Nadorff Researcher of the Month for November. Nadorff’s research examines the relation between sleep difficulties and suicidal behavior. An assistant professor of psychology, where he also serves as the director of clinical training for the department’s clinical psychology Ph.D. program, Nadorff received a B.A. in psychology and computer applications from Notre Dame, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in psychology from West Virginia.
