Four facility managers in Mississippi State University's Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station -- Keith Daniels, Sam Tackitt, Peter Hudson and Robert Dobbs -- were awarded for outstanding facilities in recent ceremonies. The Face and Image Awards were created to evaluate and reward managers on the appearance and upkeep of facilities.

Walker tabbed for national leadership program
A Mississippi State University researcher has been selected for a national leadership training program. MSU research professor Tim Walker, an agronomist and rice breeder at the Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville, will participate in Leadership for the 21st Century, or Lead21.

Mississippi State University has hired a new irrigation specialist for its Delta Research and Extension Center in Stoneville. Jason Krutz began his dual appointment with the MSU Extension Service and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station May 1.

ORS now offering fingerprint scanning
The Office of Research and Economic Development at Mississippi State recently purchased and installed new electronic fingerprint scanning equipment. "We installed the scanner to meet a requirement for submitting clearance requests to the U.S. government from MSU students, faculty and staff. Starting in 2013, the Office of Personnel Management will no longer accept the 'ink and roll' method of fingerprinting because there are too many instances of fingerprints being rejected with that method," said Office of Research Security Director Neil Lewis.

ITS helps expand world for local students
Students at Starkville Public Schools now may see university researchers describe their scientific investigations as they conduct them. Timothy Griffin of MSU's Information Technology Services said the Internet2 partnership continues a long tradition of close collaboration between MSU and the Starkville School District.

Baseball hosts Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, and then opens a three-game weekend series on the road against Florida on Friday at 6 p.m.... Softball competes in the SEC Tournament at Tuscaloosa with play running Thursday through Sunday... Track & Field competes in the SEC Championships in Baton Rouge with events beginning Thursday and continuing through the weekend... Men's Tennis hosts Alcorn State in the NCAA Team Championship first round on Friday at 2 p.m.

Faculty leadership program nominations wanted
The Office of Research and Economic Development will again be conducting an academic leadership program for selected faculty at Mississippi State University. The 2012-13 program will begin in September, and nominations are being accepted until May 31.
Dumas named sustainability 'pioneer'
Mississippi State University's work to achieve a "greener" campus and the efforts of its sustainability coordinator have been recognized by the Tennessee Valley Authority. As part of its Green Power Switch Leadership Awards, TVA and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy recently named Jeremiah Dumas a "Campus Sustainability Pioneer."
Catfish association recognizes Avery, Steeby
The Catfish Farmers of Mississippi recently recognized two Mississippi State researchers for their contributions to the U.S. farm-raised catfish industry. Jim Steeby and Jimmy Avery received the honor during the association's annual legislative luncheon in Jackson in March.
Staff Appreciation Day set for May 18
Staff Council is excited about hosting Staff Appreciation Day "Luncheon in the Junction" to honor Mississippi State University staff. This year's special event will be held Friday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff Appreciation Day t-shirts will go sale Tuesday, May 1.
