NSF workshop registration deadline Monday

Recycling on campus easier than ever
Mississippi State's campuswide recycling program is underway, and most of the university's facilities are now participating. "We are excited that everyone on campus is now a part of our recycling effort," said assistant research professor and campus sustainability coordinator Jeremiah Dumas.

With a tremendous increase in bike use on campus, Mississippi State is working to make the campus as friendly to bicycles as possible. Not only are bicycles a healthy alternative to cars, but they also help alleviate traffic and parking on campus.

Grand Opera House papers now at MSU
Papers chronicling an historic turn-of-the-century theater and an iconic East Mississippi business are new collections of the Mississippi State University Libraries. Records and other material from Meridian's Grand Opera House of Mississippi Inc. and the adjacent Marks Rothenberg Department Store recently were donated in a ceremony at the MSU Riley Center for Education and Performing Arts.

Jack Cristil book orders now being accepted
Orders are now being accepted for the biography of Mississippi State's legendary sports broadcaster. "Jack Cristil: The Voice of the Bulldogs" is written by university alumnus and veteran newsman Sid Salter. Best-selling author and fellow alumnus John Grisham is providing the book's foreword.

Volleyball hosts the Mississippi State Maroon Classic with matches against Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. Friday and Tennessee-Martin at 12:30 p.m. and Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Soccer is on the road to California for the UC Riverside Invitational with games Friday and Sunday.

CAVS hosting Movin' Maroon Tuesday
State and community leaders, university researchers and entrepreneurs will be among those gathering Tuesday at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems to promote advanced "green" technology. "Movin' Maroon" will highlight technologies developed at MSU and current research.
Akers focusing on emergency preparedness
A Mississippi State University Extension Service assistant professor will help the university and organizations around the state prepare for disaster situations. Ryan Akers is a newly appointed assistant professor in MSU's School of Human Sciences and with the Center for Government Training and Technology.
Eksioglu earns top NSF junior faculty award
A Mississippi State engineer will receive research support through the National Science Foundation's top junior faculty award program. Sandra D. Eksioglu, an assistant professor of industrial and systems engineering, earned a 2011 Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award.
Miller awarded third Fulbright fellowship of career
Only 800 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Fellowships are awarded each year, but Mississippi State University's Phyllis Miller has been awarded a Fulbright fellowship for the third time in her career.
