A campus like no other: MSU receives professional grounds management honor for third year in a row

For the third consecutive year, Mississippi State University’s exceptionally maintained campus is being nationally recognized as part of the Professional Grounds Management Society’s 2017 Green Star Awards competition.
During the Maryland-based society’s recent annual awards dinner, MSU was one of four Honor Award recipients in the University and College Grounds (Mid-Size) category for exceptional grounds maintenance, one of 13 judging categories. Through changing seasons, daily campus interactions of 27,000 students, faculty and staff, and more than 75,000 campus guests on Southeastern Conference football weekends, MSU’s Campus Landscape employees continually conserve 1,500 acres of the Starkville campus.
“Late winter explosion of daffodils gives way to the springtime blooming of magnolias, daylilies and tulips, which leads to the summertime green of Bermuda grass and turns into the green of perennial rye grass and fall colors of the trees that adorn the campus,” said Bart Prather, MSU associate director of campus landscape.
Amy Tuck, MSU vice president for campus services, said, “Mississippi State University is very fortunate to have a dedicated team of professionals who truly care about the appearance of our campus. They are an asset to MSU.”
George Davis, MSU assistant vice president for campus services, also extended words of gratitude to the campus landscape staff for its diligence in keeping MSU’s grounds in top-flight condition.
“Congratulations to our landscape team for ensuring that we have a beautiful campus. We appreciate their hard work,” Davis said.
