Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra returns to Lee Hall with annual Criss Christmas Concert
Under the baton of Mississippi State University Department of Music Head Barry E. Kopetz, the Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra will perform its annual Criss Christmas Concert Saturday on the Starkville campus. “As with all Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra performances, the Criss Christmas Concert is free and open to the public. We encourage individuals of all ages to come and be a part of this annual tradition,” said Ryan Landis, MSU voice instructor and SSO operations manager.

MSU Libraries, CAVS collaborate on virtual, augmented reality access project
Mississippi State University is one of the first universities in the country to provide all students with access to the latest virtual and augmented reality equipment, thanks to a partnership between MSU Libraries and the university’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems. “CAVS is excited to help the library share virtual reality and augmented reality applications with our community,” said Daniel Carruth, CAVS associate director for human factors.

Psychology department establishes Relatives as Parents Program
Mississippi State’s Department of Psychology is hosting a support group that will provide information and other helpful resources for grandparents and other relatives serving as caregivers for children. Under the direction of MSU Assistant Professor of Psychology Danielle Nadorff, the Relatives as Parents Program will meet from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second Monday of each month starting this week. Lunch will be provided.

New opportunities with the Maroon Volunteer Center
The Maroon Volunteer Center at Mississippi State details a number of volunteer opportunities for the campus community on its website and in its newsletter this week, including Boys & Girls Club, Project CLASS mentors, MSU Community Garden, Habitat for Humanity home build, Emerson's Fresh Start Garden, Old Main Art Gallery volunteers, and more.

A campus like no other: MSU receives professional grounds management honor for third year in a row
For the third consecutive year, Mississippi State University’s exceptionally maintained campus is being nationally recognized as part of the Professional Grounds Management Society’s 2017 Green Star Awards competition. During the Maryland-based society’s recent annual awards dinner, MSU was one of four Honor Award recipients in the University and College Grounds (Mid-Size) category for exceptional grounds maintenance. Amy Tuck, MSU vice president for campus services, said, “Mississippi State University is very fortunate to have a dedicated team of professionals who truly care about the appearance of our campus. They are an asset to MSU.”

Esenwein, Tripp named editors of ‘Arris’ architecture historian journal
Two faculty members in Mississippi State University’s School of Architecture are the new editors of “Arris - The Journal of the Southeast Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians.” Assistant professors Fred Esenwein and Andrew Tripp each will serve a three-year term from 2018-2021. Esenwein is a licensed architect in Virginia whose academic research concentrates on American architecture. In addition to a bachelor’s in architecture from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City’s East Village, Tripp has a master’s and doctorate in architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
