'Come to the Cabaret' Tuesday night
A collaborative entertainment program titled "Come to the Cabaret: A Lecture-Recital on Cabaret Songs by Great Composers and Poets" will be featured Tuesday at Mississippi State.
The free public event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert and Freda Harrison Auditorium of the university's Giles Architecture Building.
The interdisciplinary faculty musical series was created four years ago by pianist Karen Murphy of the MSU music department, sponsor of the program. Murphy also directs the series.
Faculty singers will include tenor Wayne Davis, soprano Rebecca Wascoe, and baritones Guy Hargrove and Gregory Wascoe. All are members of the department but Hargrove, who holds emeritus status.
Student performers include contralto Emily L. Hobson of Brandon; mezzo soprano Lily G. Hudson of Columbus; sopranos Maureen R. Hughes and Elizabeth A. Jones, both of Starkville; baritone Stephen H. Kelly of Olive Branch; baritone Aaron P. Mann of Carthage; tenor Justin P. Pitner of Booneville; and soprano Hollyn White of Madison.
All are seniors but Hobson, who is a sophomore, and Hughes and Kelly, both juniors.
Nancy Hargrove, MSU Giles Distinguished Professor Emerita of English, will provide commentary and give brief introductions to the selections. Her remarks will be accompanied by Powerpoint illustrations.
