Reading to launch newly published poetry collection

An April 5 public event at Mississippi State University will feature a new poetry collection by an English faculty member.
Catherine Pierce, who co-directs the university's creative writing program, will read from "The Girls of Peculiar," issued March 15 by Saturnalia Books. The 8 p.m. event in Rogers Auditorium of McCool Hall marks the Mississippi launch of the book.
Pierce is the author of a previous book of poetry, "Famous Last Words," winner of the 2007 Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize selected by poet and essayist John Yau. She also is the author of a chapbook, "Animals of Habit," a 2004 publication that won the Wick Chapbook Competition.
Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Slate, Boston Review, Ploughshares, The Cincinnati Review, and others.
She earned her bachelor's from Susquehanna University, a master's of fine arts from Ohio State University, and her doctorate from the University of Missouri.
