CHASES, History Department host leading scholar
The Center for the History of Agriculture, Science, and the Environment in the South (CHASES) and the History Department at Mississippi State University are excited to announce the final event of the CHASES Lecture Series for the spring semester.
James C. Cobb, Spalding Distinguished Professor of History at the University of Georgia, will deliver the address, "From 'King Cotton' to the Sunbelt: The Rural South and the Global Economy," on Wednesday, April 4, at 4 p.m. in Swalm 001.
Cobb is a leading authority on the history of the American South. He is the author of eight books, including "The Most Southern Place on Earth: The Mississippi Delta and the Roots of Regional Identity." In addition, he has edited several more books and published countless articles.
Among the most respected American historians working today, Cobb is a former president of the Southern Historical Association and frequent contributor to news outlets including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, New York Times, The New Republic, and Wall Street Journal.
