At the Animal Rehabilitation Center of Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), the road to recovery doesn’t end after surgery or treatment. Much like humans who often require physical therapy to regain strength and mobility following surgery or illness, canines can also benefit greatly from rehabilitation. That’s where Justice Steele, an Animal Health Technician, steps in. For more than two years, Steele has been instrumental in helping patients rebuild strength and mobility.

Steele works closely with animals, primarily canines, recovering from orthopedic or neurological challenges, tailoring each therapy session to their unique needs. Watching her patients grow and thrive is what inspires her daily.

“I love being able to participate and be a part of our patients' regimens, helping them get stronger every day,” Steele shared.

The state-of-the-art facility offers advanced therapies like electrical stimulation, acupuncture, therapeutic laser treatments and hydrotherapy using an underwater treadmill. Each therapy is carefully designed to meet the specific needs of patients, whether it’s reducing pain, building muscle mass, or improving cardiovascular fitness.

“My favorite part of my job is being able to give patients a relaxing break from their day by utilizing laser therapy to help with their pain, whether the root of the pain is from surgery, arthritis or even wounds,” said Steele.

Steele also provides owners with personalized home exercise plans, empowering them to support their companion’s recovery.

The Animal Rehabilitation Center collaborates with primary care veterinarians and surgeons to create a seamless experience for every patient. Referrals are required to access these services, which are designed to provide the highest level of care while working closely with the pet’s primary veterinarian.

“Watching the progress of our patients and seeing how far they’ve come is so rewarding and is what I love most about my job,” said Steele.
