DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Christian Thames
Christian Thames
Veterinary Assistant
Animal Emergency and Referral Center
Years in position/service to MSU: 5
For Christian Thames, the joy of seeing a sick or injured animal leave the clinic healthy again is the ultimate reward. As a veterinary assistant at the Animal Emergency and Referral Center, or AERC, Thames is involved in the day-to-day care of animals. The AERC is a state-of-the-art facility for advanced emergency, specialty and surgical care located in Flowood that is a branch of the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
From drawing blood, helping with radiographs, or providing support during medical procedures, Thames assists wherever needed. Having worked alongside a talented team of veterinary professionals for the past five years, Thames is thankful for the opportunity to contribute to the care of animals in need.
“I love playing a part in seeing an animal walk away healthy after being sick or hurt. It’s the best part of my job,” Thames said. “I’ve always loved animals, and being around them growing up helped me feel at ease with them.”
Thames' connection to animals goes beyond his work at AERC. One of his favorite memories is the opportunity he and his wife had to rescue two animals from the hospital.
“The growth they’ve shown simply from being in a loving home makes every obstacle worth it,” Thames said.
Whether it’s the satisfaction of a healed pet walking out of the clinic or the joy of rescuing a new companion, Thames remains motivated by his passion for animal welfare and the opportunity to make a difference in their lives.
