Harvard's Bobo coming to MSU as speaker, scholar
"Post-Racial Dreams, American Realities" will be the Monday, March 5 topic of a Mississippi State program led by a nationally prominent sociologist.
Lawrence D. Bobo's university presentation begins at 5 p.m. in McCool Hall's first-floor Rogers Auditorium. The event is free and open to all.
Bobo holds Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois Professorship in Social Sciences.
Through March 9, he will be visiting MSU as scholar-in-residence for the African American Studies Program of the College of Arts and Sciences. (For more on the program, see www.aas.msstate.edu/scholar/.)
A specialist on the intersection of social inequality, politics and race, Bobo is the author, with M. Tuan, of "Prejudice in Politics: Group Position, Public Opinion and the Wisconsin Treaty Rights Dispute" (2006, Harvard University Press). The book was a finalist for the C. Wright Mills Award.
"Race, Crime and Public Opinion" is the title of his research current project.
