DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Laura Anglin
Laura Anglin
Extension Agent I
Years in position/at MSU: 2
Extension Agents wear many hats from day to day -- and sometimes even hour to hour -- but for Mississippi State University Extension Agent Laura Anglin, one of her favorite hats to wear is that of youth development.
“I get so much joy from working with our youth and seeing them learn and grow,” said Anglin.
Extension has played a lifelong role in Anglin’s life. She grew up participating in the 4-H livestock program but emphasized how many areas 4-H offers for youth to get involved, including sewing, robotics, cooking, STEM, and many outdoor activities.
“4-H is so versatile. The lessons you learn in the wide array of activities can be applied to all aspects of your life,” Anglin said.
Seeing youth from all walks of life find where they belong in 4-H and develop new friendships is one of the most rewarding aspects of Anglin’s job. Even in a state with agriculture as the number one industry, Anglin understands not everyone is familiar with farming, and that’s where her role as Extension agent bridges the gap. She enjoys giving others a front-row seat to agriculture through programs like “Cow Patty Bingo” at a primarily urban school.
“Seeing firsthand youth and adults seeing cattle up close for the first time and being genuinely excited about it was an amazing experience,” Anglin said.
Extension and 4-H is a family affair for Anglin. Her husband, Wess, is an MSU Extension agent in Tate County. They have two children, Jolee and Jenna. As a family, they enjoy traveling to livestock shows and attending cattle and sheep sales.
