Moore-White to help guide interdisciplinary degree pathways as assistant dean
Lynda Moore-White
A Mississippi State academic director, counselor and advisor with more than two decades of service to the university is in a new leadership position in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program.
Lynda Moore-White, who has spent the past seven years as director of the University Academic Advising Center, is now the assistant dean of Interdisciplinary Studies. The program includes MSU’s Data Science Academic Institute and is leading the effort on several new interdisciplinary degree programs.
“Lynda’s tremendous experience in student advising and expertise in navigating curriculum and degree structures makes her an invaluable asset,” said Interim Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies Jamie Dyer. “The initiative to build degree pathways that cross discipline boundaries requires a high level of understanding of university policies and guidelines, and Lynda’s valuable skill set will help build successful and sustainable academic programs.”
Along with her years as UAAC director, Moore-White has served as an academic coach for the university’s Complete to Compete Program, an innovative Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning initiative encouraging adult learners to finish requirements to earn their bachelor’s degree. She also spent 15 years in the Division of Athletics as associate and assistant director for Athletic Academics and academic counselor.
Moore-White currently is serving a term as chair of the university’s Academic Advisors Council, previously serving in this role from 2017-2021. She has been active on the regional and national levels with The Global Community for Academic Advising, formerly the National Academic Advising Association, and has served on numerous MSU curriculum, student success and advising councils and committees.
“After over 22 years in the field of academic advising, I look forward to working with Dr. Dyer and our academic colleges to develop new programs and provide academic advising support to our students and faculty,” Moore-White said. “I have a passion for student advancement, degree attainment and Mississippi State University.”
Currently an MSU doctoral student in human development and family sciences, Moore-White has a liberal arts master’s degree from Mississippi College and a bachelor’s degree in English with a Spanish minor from Florida’s Stetson University.
