MSU hosts upcoming summer science and engineering symposium

The Mississippi Academy of Sciences Summer Science and Engineering Symposium will be held at Mississippi State University and is open to high school and college students conducting agricultural or engineering research.

The symposium will be held on MSU’s Starkville campus at the Bost Conference Center on July 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Raja Reddy, Giles Distinguished Professor in MSU’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a scientist with the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station and symposium chair, shared a few details about the event.

“The Mississippi Academy of Sciences Summer Science and Engineering Symposium includes poster and rapid-fire 3-minute oral presentations from high school, undergraduate and graduate students from across the state to showcase innovative research. The event is a forum for collaboration and networking with the opportunity to win awards across several disciplines.”

Students who have conducted research in areas such as agriculture, molecular biology, chemistry, health sciences, any division of engineering or a related subject are encouraged to participate in the symposium. Students will be selected for the symposium after submitting a relevant abstract from their research.

There will be an opportunity for 15 students to receive awards at the event, including outstanding poster presentations for high school, undergraduate, master’s, doctoral and post-doctoral students. Five individuals from each category will be selected and the awards will include cash and certificates for the first, second and third place winners, honorable mention certificates for the fourth and fifth place winners, and a complimentary one-year membership to the Mississippi Academy of Sciences for all 15 award recipients.
