McConnell recognized for technical writing
Eric McConnell
A Mississippi State University assistant professor in the Department of Forestry, was recognized as the Forest Resources Association National Technical Writing Award winner.
Eric McConnell, also a scientist in the university’s Forest and Wildlife Research Center, received the award at the FRA’s Annual Meeting in Nashville.
Technical releases are published four times a year by FRA and are almost entirely written by members of the association. Awards are presented to the best member-written technical releases each year to recognize their efforts.
McConnell, a College of Forest Resources alumnus, spoke of his appreciation for receiving the award.
“I am honored to receive this award from the Forest Resources Association. They are a key consumer of research-based information to support the wood supply system’s public policy interests with government leaders. I am humbled to have been nationally recognized by the 350 organizations and businesses comprising the FRA membership,” McConnell said.
Clay Altizer, the Southwide Region Manager for FRA, shared input about McConnell’s technical writing.
“Dr. McConnell's’ outstanding article this year was both timely and relevant and undoubtedly, well-received by FRA membership. His Technical Release titled 'Forestry and Inflation: Friends or Foes,' examines the inflationary impacts on timber price returns from two Southern forestry perspectives. Dr. McConnell’s latest contribution reinforces the strong bond that exists between our land-grant universities and the forest products industry. His outstanding work provides an excellent overview of inflation, an important topic that has impacted all sectors of the wood supply chain over the past few years,” Altizer said.
