Grammy-nominated singer performs Thursday
Internationally known jazz vocalist Jane Monheit is the next guest performer for Mississippi State University's 2011-12 Lyceum Series.
Her Thursday, Feb. 2 concert will feature romantic interpretations of American jazz standards by such composers as Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz, Rogers and Hart, Irving Berlin, and Jerome Kern.
The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.lyceum.msstate.edu/#!ticket-information.
Monheit is replacing the TALK Dance Company, whose late January appearance at the university was cancelled. All sold TALK Dance admissions--including season tickets--will be honored.
A New York native, Monheit has been singing professionally since graduating from high school in the mid-1990s. "Never Never Land," her first album, was voted the top debut recording by the Jazz Journalist's Association and remained for a year on Billboard magazine's jazz chart.
Other albums have either debuted at No. 1 or also remained on the chart for a year. She has received two Grammy nominations. (For more, visit http://janemonheitonline.com/.)
