Mike Leach public memorial to be held Tuesday
Mississippi State University will host a public memorial service honoring the life of Mike Leach at 1 p.m. on Tuesday [Dec. 20] inside Humphrey Coliseum. Doors will open at noon and normal Humphrey Coliseum security screening will be in effect.
Leach passed away the night of Dec. 12, 2022, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, following complications from a heart condition. He was 61.
Leach, who was named Mississippi State’s 34th head football coach on January 9, 2020, was finishing his third season in Starkville and 21st as a head coach. Forever a college football icon, he leaves an incredible legacy as a husband, father, friend and leader of young men.
The memorial service will be streamed live on SEC Network and in the ESPN app.
Mississippi State will be unable to receive personal floral tributes for the memorial service, but professional florists may deliver to Humphrey Coliseum on Monday from 1-5 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 8-10 a.m. Professional floral deliveries can be made directly to the Humphrey Coliseum service entrance roll-up door on the coliseum’s northeast corner during these times. This entrance is located across the street from the Dudy Noble Field Right Field Gate. Personal tributes may continue being placed at the tables located at Gate A at Davis Wade Stadium through Monday evening.
Seating for the event will be first-come, first-served within the Humphrey Coliseum seating bowl. Invited guests, current Mississippi State coaches and players, as well as former players and colleagues of Coach Leach will have designated seating sections located on the Humphrey Coliseum floor.
