DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Annie Weaver
Annie Weaver
Custodian II
MSU College of Veterinary Medicine
Years in Position: 9 years
Years at MSU: 20 years
Annie Weaver loves everything about her job -- from the people she interacts with to cleaning.
“I have a passion for cleaning. I like to clean -- bathrooms, offices, floors. Sometimes I learn different things. We have a machine that you drive, and it scrubs the floors. It’s kind of fun!”
As a custodian at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine for nearly a decade, Weaver’s territory covers non-clinical areas. Regardless of where she is in the facility, on the third floor with students or in the dean’s suite, many of the roughly one thousand students, faculty, and staff know her by name, but not all of them call her “Annie.”
“Hey Panky,” said a coworker walking past Weaver in the hall. Weaver laughed and explained, “It’s a nickname my dad gave me when I was born because he said I was so pink, and it just kind of stuck. Some people call me ‘Pinky’ and some people call me ‘Panky.’”
Weaver enjoys meeting new people and views her career as a ministry by showing kindness to clients whose pets are receiving medical care at the animal hospital and encouraging students.
“Sometimes I interact with students. When I see them upset because they maybe didn’t do well on a test, I try to comfort them and tell them it’s going to be okay. Try again, and you’ll get it next time.”
“I just love the Vet School and Mississippi state -- from the bottom of my heart, said Weaver. “It’s a great place to work. When it comes time for me to retire, I don’t think I’m going to be able to leave.”
When she’s not at work, Weaver enjoys shopping, and she’ll have many presents to buy for Christmas. Weaver and her high school sweetheart, Theodis, have been married for 30 years and have two sons and one daughter and nine grandchildren.
