WMSV radiothon benefits Haiti relief effort
Mississippi State University's campus radio station, WMSV 91.1, is hosting a radiothon benefit Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 to support a local organization's relief efforts in Haiti.
During the two-day effort, WMSV will be collecting jars of peanut butter and monetary donations that will be given to Operation Ukraine, a Columbus-based charity that has been working in Haiti since shortly after a catastrophic earthquake caused widespread destruction on the island nation in early 2010.
The radio station will be taking donations in the State Fountain Bakery, where Aramark will offer free coffee and peanut butter cookies on Friday from 6 p.m. to midnight and on Saturday from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Anyone can donate jars or money for the cause with $3 buying buying one jar of peanut butter. For four jars or a $10 donation, a DJ will announce the donor's name on the air. For eight jars or a $20 donation, a donor can come in and give an on-air shout out. For 12 jars or $30 donation, a donor can come in and dedicate any song on the air.
WMSV will also give groups or organizations, such as a fraternity or local band, half an hour of air time to play songs or promote an organization for a $300 donation, which would buy 10 cases of peanut butter.
In addition, any business that purchases 10 cases of peanut butter from WMSV during the event for $300 will receive 75 30-second underwriter announcements on the station during January and February.
