DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Beth Bell
Beth Bell
As a Family and Consumer Science agent, Beth Bell works with adults and children in Tallahatchie County teaching skills to help them improve or make changes for the better in their lives.
“I think my favorite memory so far is from my first day of working with the Extension Service,” said Beth. “I got to help judge exhibits at the Neshoba County Fair. It was extremely hot but so much fun.”
Beth graduated from Delta State University and learned about career opportunities in Extension from Theresa Hand, who was an agent-in-training then and is now an interim regional Extension coordinator. This encounter at the Family and Consumer Sciences student association was instrumental in Beth’s career path.
“I would encourage any student interested to go and talk to the Extension agents in their community or those at MSU,” she said. “Job shadow them for a day or two, and I am sure that will give them a unique perspective.”
Beth talked about enjoying the opportunity she had to interact with everyone in Tallahatchie County. To her, it seems like each workday is different, and she always appreciates visiting and helping each person with whom she comes in contact.
While not at work, she enjoys being with friends and family. She and her husband have two daughters, a third grader and a freshman at Mississippi State.
“I love talking with them and hearing about things going on with them,” she said. “I am missing my freshman, and we Facetime probably more than she wants to!”
Beth has a true affinity for Extension and all of her colleagues. According to Beth, they are all part of one big family.
