Scarpa first Eminent Architect of Practice
The Mississippi State University School of Architecture is pleased to announce that Lawrence Scarpa, FAIA, will be joining the faculty for the spring 2011 semester, inaugurating the Eminent Architect of Practice. This visiting faculty position is a new program that the school established to bring a distinguished award-winning architect of contemporary practice to campus to teach in the senior level studio capstone project.
"Having Larry come to Starkville to interact with our faculty, engage with our students, and present public lectures, provides a remarkable opportunity to have a world-class architect walk among us," states Michael A. Berk, F.L. Crane Professor and Director of the School of Architecture. "We are all very excited... we would also like to encourage the public to monitor our web page to see the details for a forthcoming public lecture."
Scarpa will be co-teaching with Professors Hans Herrmann, AIA, and Berk.
Scarpa is the founding partner and principal in the Los Angeles based firm of Pugh + Scarpa, recipients of the 2010 American Institute of Architects (AIA) "Firm of the Year" Award. His work redefines the role of the architect and results in some of the most remarkable and exploratory design today. He does so by looking, questioning, and reworking the very process of design and building.
