DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Janet Jolley
Janet Jolley
As a family and consumer science agent, Janet Jolley works with both adults and children in Marshall County to teach them skills to improve their lives.
Janet enjoys working with people and teaching them new skills. She finds that is it very fulfilling to watch children work to learn something new and then to see their faces when they finally master that skill.
“I have always had a love for the family and consumer sciences field, and knew that I wanted a career related to it,” Janet said. “Being an Extension agent has provided me the opportunity to help others and to share my love of family and consumer sciences.”
Janet was actively involved in 4-H has a child and said she had wonderful 4-H agents who influenced her throughout her life.
“I wish more people knew about the Extension Service,” Janet said. “I wish that they understood the different volunteer opportunities that we have available through Master Gardeners, Mississippi Homemaker Volunteers, 4-H and more.”
Janet said some people see Extension as an agricultural program only and do not realize that Extension offers a wide variety of programs.
She said to be successful as an agent, one has to love to work with people, to be a leader and to be adventurous. Flexibility is another important trait.
Outside of work, Janet loves to sew, cook, and spend time with her family. She is active in her church and with their local high school band. She and her husband, Jim, have two college-age sons.
