Brocato named Fellow of ASEE
John Brocato, the program coordinator for the Shackouls Technical Communication program in the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State, was recently named a Fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education.
Brocato was one of just 11 engineering educators from the across the country to be selected as a 2018 ASEE Fellow.
ASEE Fellows are recognized for their outstanding contributions to engineering or engineering technology education. Additionally, to be selected as an ASEE Fellow, an educator must have been an active member of ASEE for at least 10 years.
“I’m incredibly fortunate to work for a college that supports its faculty’s efforts to become excellent engineering educators, and a major part of this process involves participation with ASEE,” Brocato said. “I’m honored and humbled to become an ASEE Fellow, and I’ve certainly worked hard as an ASEE member, Campus Representative, and division/section officer, but I couldn’t have reached this point without the continued, enthusiastic support of the Bagley College as a whole and from BCoE administration, particularly Dean Jason Keith.”
Brocato joins a list of six other former or current Bagley faculty members who have been recognized as a Fellow of ASEE, including Keith (2014) and Luther B. Epting (2006), B.K. Hodge (2006), Sarah Rajala (2007), Donna Reese (2016) and Kirk H. Schulz (2008).
Brocato has earned two degrees from Mississippi State University and is pursuing a third. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English language and literature in 1991 and 1997, respectively. He is currently working towards a Ph.D. in history and philosophy of science and technology from Mississippi State.
Brocato also serves as the host of Momentum, a monthly television show dedicated to the Bagley College of Engineering.
