Darty completes volleyball staff with Green, Drattlo

Completing her Bulldog coaching staff, first-year Mississippi State coach Julie Darty has announced the hiring of an assistant coach and director of operations.

Joining the #DartyParty are assistant coach Travers Green and director of operations Cody Drattlo. Green comes from the University of South Florida, and Drattlo joins the team after graduating from Indiana this past May.

"Hiring Trav and Cody to our staff has made everything feel complete here," Darty said. "We have a diverse group of personalities, and we balance one another very well. We are all committed to hard work and doing things the right way. I'm so excited that they are here, and I am very excited to be able to work with such a fabulous group of people."

Green has coached at all levels: high school, club, college, internationally and professionally since 2006. His analytical mind is one of the best in the sport, having expertise in DataVolley, DataVideo and scouting preparation. His experience and strong relationships will benefit MSU's recruiting endeavors.

As a former setter who played club volleyball at Florida State, Green also worked extensively with USF's setters. During his tenure, Green increased the Bulls' assists per set average each season from 11.48 in 2014, 12.17 in 2015 and 12.42 in 2016. He guided USF setter Alex Mendoza to fourth in career assists with 3,147. Mendoza became just the fifth player in program history to reach 3,000 assists.

"I have known Trav for over 10 years, and that kind of trust and loyalty is hard to come by," Darty said. "Trav is someone that I have coached at various levels with, and it just was a no-brainer for me to bring him here to StarkVegas. I have watched Trav leave his mark on a couple programs over the past several years, and I have such a respect for the way he goes about his work. He is diligent, meticulous, detail oriented, super organized, is such a hard worker and tireless recruiter. He works super hard and pours himself into coaching and developing not only players but also good people. It is exactly what we needed to round out our staff here at Mississippi State."

Green remained involved with the Florida Region of USA Volleyball during his tenure as a college coach. He served as an assistant coach for the region's High Performance Team, Team Florida (2013-2017) and its professional team, Florida Wave (2014-2016). His crowning achievement with both programs came while on the sidelines with Darty. Together they won the Youth International division gold medal with Team Florida in 2017 and the $10,000 championship prize with Florida Wave in 2016.

The Orlando native was tabbed the Seminole Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2009 and 2010. While at Orlando Volleyball Academy, he was named the 2010 Male Coach of the Year.

Green graduated from Florida State in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in recreation and leisure services administration. He is married to Sloane Green, and they have two dogs, Archie and Fletcher.

"I'm honored and humbled for this opportunity at Mississippi State University," Green said. "I'd like to thank Julie Darty and the athletic administration for welcoming me into a department teeming with passionate people. I believe in Julie's vision and I have confidence in the support we have to grow the program. I'm grateful for my incredible experience at University of South Florida where I have left a better coach, and to Courtney Draper. I'm excited to get started at MSU and my wife and I are looking forward to becoming members of the Starkville community."

Starting his collegiate career is Cody Drattlo. He comes to MSU following graduation from Indiana, where he worked as and was in charge of the student managers the past three years with the Hoosiers' volleyball program.

"Cody is an energetic, hard-worker who is going to help us in so many ways here at Mississippi State," Darty said. "When I was looking to hire for this position, Cody was mentored by someone who is near and dear to me. I am so excited that we were able to add this position to our staff, and I knew Cody was the perfect fit. Cody has great energy with an easy-going personality. I look forward to having him help us with the day-to-day operations and building a culture for our program. Cody will hit the ground running here and do a great job in this position. We are excited to have Cody join our family here at MSU."

For two seasons, Cody played at South Indy Club, where he won third place in 18 Open at AAU Nationals in 2012. He continued at SIC as an assistant coach for the girls 18-1's in 2014. In addition to working at SIC, Drattlo also worked with the Hoosierland volleyball club coaching 16's, 17's and 18's from 2015-2018.

A native of Greenwood, Ind., Drattlo earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management and marketing with a minor in coaching from Indiana in May 2018.

"I am very excited to join the Mississippi State volleyball staff," Drattlo said. "They are dedicated individuals who are driven to make this program a contender in the SEC. I'm thrilled to be a part of the rebuild and to see where the coaches can take this team."
