The Wildlife Society president visits this week
The president of The Wildlife Society will be featured Thursday, Sept. 22 at Mississippi State's 2011 Carlton N. Owen Lecture Series.
Tom Ryder, wildlife management coordinator for Wyoming's Department of Game and Fish, is speaker of this year's public event. His presentation will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Tully Auditorium of Thompson Hall.
The Owen Lecture Series was established nearly two decades ago in the university's College of Forest Resources by the Greenville, S.C., resident and 1974 MSU graduate for whom it is named. The program focuses on natural resource conservation issues.
A native of Dubuque, Iowa, Ryder earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Wyoming. He has been with the game and fish department for 28 years, serving in numerous capacities. In his present position, he supervises the region's terrestrial wildlife programs -- mammals, birds, snakes and turtles.
Founded in 1937, The Wildlife Society is an international non-profit scientific and educational association dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship through science and education.
Ryder has been an active member of The Wildlife Society for over 30 years, previously serving as president of the Wyoming Chapter. He has also received awards from the international society for his outstanding contributions to wildlife management.
