International Institute hosts workshop on European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research program
Mary Kavanagh, minister-counselor for research and innovation for the European Union delegation to the United States, presented an overview, “The EU Framework: Programme for Research and Innovation,” at MSU last month.
Mississippi State’s International Institute hosted a workshop in November for researchers who may benefit from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program.
Horizon 2020 is the European Commission’s €80 billion research program, which facilitates collaborative work between European nations and the U.S., as well as countries around the globe.
Mary Kavanagh, minister-counselor for research and innovation for the European Union delegation to the United States, presented an overview, “The EU Framework: Programme for Research and Innovation.” The day continued with presentations about resources for U.S.-E.U. research collaboration, cooperation options, and an explanation about the complexities of the Horizon 2020 agreements.
Other speakers included Claire Chen, program coordinator for the National Council of University Research Administrators, and Jennifer Ponting, director of pre-award services for Harvard University’s Office of Sponsored Programs.
“President Keenum and the MSU community remain steadfast in their commitment for identifying opportunities to tackle societal challenges and improve livelihoods around the world,” said Julie Jordan, MSU interim associate vice president of international programs and the interim executive director of the university’s International Institute.
Shauncey Hill, MSU director of international research development, said the European Commission Horizon 2020 Program is “a great resource for expanding and refining our international efforts and innovations in food security, clean energy, green transportation and much more here at MSU.”
She continued, “We greatly appreciate the presenters providing very thorough and insightful information during the workshop. The International Institute looks forward to assisting faculty in pursuing research and mobility opportunities through the Horizon2020 Program.”
