DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Jansen Garrett
Jansen Garrett
As a Family Nutrition Program Assistant, Jansen Garrett works with underprivileged Mississippians in Lee County and beyond.
"I work with schools in the county that offer 50 percent free or reduced lunch, and I also work with low-income adults," Garrett explained.
While she helps better the lives of all ages, she has a natural affinity for children. She intentionally chose her career to better the lives of youth, and they are her favorite part of going to work each day.
Seeing Garrett during a school day proves a highlight for many children. They adore her so much that they remember her years after attending the schools she serves.
"I see children years later that I have taught and they remember me as 'the food lady,'" Garrett said. "One group even thought that my name was Mrs. Carrot, not Garrett."
When Garrett is not bringing joy to the cafeteria, she spends time at home with her grandchildren and completes various crafts and projects. She has two adult children, Nick and Hunter, with her husband, Eric.
