Misti Crum
For Misti Crum, lifelong friends and community engagement are natural outgrowths from her career as an MSU Extension Office Associate.
Crum's days bustle with service to others. She manages data, keeps records and assists clientele. She works alongside Extension agents during programming, all while sending press releases to local newspapers and managing social media sites for Alcorn County's Extension office.
Crum finds purpose in meeting the needs of others.
"I've made connections with clients, co-workers from across the state and people in the community that I may have never crossed paths with outside of my job, and I continue to meet people from all ages and all walks of life," Crum said.
Many of the community connections Crum makes are with 4-H'ers. Since her office works closely with 4-H, she watches many children join and benefit from the program immensely.
"We have had many at-risk children come through our county 4-H program over the years, and it is always a joy to see them come out of their shells and begin to excel because of the skills they learn," Crum explained. "I have also had the privilege to watch the reactions on their faces as they experience things that some may take for granted, such as attending a college football game."
When she is not in the office, Crum finds a second home in her church, New Covenant Christian Assembly of Falkner, where she co-teaches a Sunday school class for elementary-aged children, volunteers with Vacation Bible School and facilitates special events. Her favorite activity is spending quality time with her 8-year-old niece, Jozie.
