DAFVM Spotlight Employee: Ann Davis
Ann Davis
As Extension county coordinator, Ann Davis plays a critical role in her community.
“After many years of working in retail and managing a historic site, I wanted a position where I could work with diverse groups of individuals, make a difference in their lives and not be confined to an office,” Davis said.
That perfectly describes her job with Extension. Davis manages the Extension’s Family and Consumer Science, Community Resource Development and 4-H programs. She also has a hand in forestry and logger education classes, financial management, diabetes prevention, local summer camps, and leadership classes in nearby schools.
“Almost every day is different, and it’s seldom boring,” Davis explained.
Her work in Extension has given her many stories to tell.
“Once, I had a call from a producer that something was destroying his soybean crop and he couldn’t determine the cause. I drove 32 miles to the far reaches of the county,” said Davis. “He looked at me kind of funny. Of course I didn’t know anything about a soybean, but I made a valiant effort to look at the leaves. About that time, very small grasshoppers started moving on the plants,” she said. “After that, he called me regularly for Extension advice.”
Stories like these make Davis laugh, but they also remind her of the community and connections she has found through Extension. She said working with local people and a great office staff are two of the greatest joys of her job.
When she is outside of her office, Davis enjoys cooking, reading, fishing and traveling. She has one son, Adam.
