Men's golf adds Ewing as assistant coach
New Mississippi State men's golf coach Dusty Smith rounded out his coaching staff with the addition of Charlie Ewing as assistant coach.
"I am so excited to welcome Charlie to the Mississippi State family," Smith said. "He will be a huge asset to our program and will bring a lot of experience at both the playing and coaching levels. He will play an important role in the development and recruitment of our student-athletes. Charlie is built of high character, and he will be a great addition to Mississippi State men's golf."
Ewing, a Dallas, Texas native, was a four-year letterwinner at Vanderbilt under Smith from 2010-14. He was a four-year All-SEC Academic Honor Roll member off the course while playing 114 rounds and averaging a 73.96 scoring average on it. During his time with the Commodores, he claimed one individual title at the Arkansas State Red Wolf Intercollegiate in 2012, four Top 5 finishes and 10 Top 10 showings.
"I'm very thankful for the opportunity Mr. (John) Cohen, Mr. (Jared) Benko and Coach Smith are giving me here at Mississippi State. I could not be more excited about joining Coach Smith and Janie as part of the Mississippi State golf family," Ewing said. "It's been a dream of mine to coach in the SEC, and I'm so blessed to be able to have this opportunity so early in my career. I wholeheartedly believe in the mission Coach Smith has set for the program and am thrilled to be joining the Mississippi State family."
Since graduation, Ewing spent the 2016 postseason as a volunteer assistant at his alma matter and this past season at Texas Tech, where the Red Raiders finished 14th in the final Golfstat Rankings.
