Marcum receives Inria international research chair
Dave Marcum
A professor from the Bagley College of Engineering has been named to an international chair by a French national research institute.
Dave Marcum, the chief scientist at MSU’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems and a professor of mechanical engineering, has been awarded an Inria International Chair for 2017-2021.
As the French national institute for computer science and applied mathematics, Inria offers an environment for eminent researchers to pursue topics of interest, develop collaborations and gain visibility for research findings.
During two- to three-month sessions over the next five years, Marcum will collaborate with Inria colleagues on his research specialty -- unstructured mesh generation for computational simulation and design of automotive, aerospace and industrial vehicles and devices.
Since joining Mississippi State University in 1991, Marcum has served in a variety of director positions within the university’s research sector, leading MSU’s NSF Engineering Research Center and the Computational Simulation and Design Center. He is currently the chief scientist of computational fluid dynamics at the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems.
Before joining MSU, he conducted aerodynamics research as a senior specialist engineer with The Boeing Company and was a computational fluid dynamics scientist with McDonnell Douglas Corporation. Marcum holds a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree in mechanical engineering, all from Purdue University.
Inria is made up of more than 2,600 researchers, each striving to invent the digital technologies of the future. By creating academic partnerships around the globe, the institute is promoting scientific excellence and cultivating collaboration between the brightest minds from 87 different countries.
