MSU alumna to lead the College of Arts and Sciences admissions efforts

Hannah Bateman

Hannah Bateman, a graduate of Mississippi State's Department of Communication, is the newly appointed admissions coordinator for the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Columbus, Mississippi, native received her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication with a concentration in public relations in spring 2016.

While pursuing her undergraduate degree, Bateman was an active member of several organizations on campus including the Public Relations Student Society of America and the MSU Student Association. She also worked as a student assistant for the MSU Office of Public Affairs, where she assisted with Maroon Friday and State Proud week projects.

After graduation Bateman began pursuing her master’s degree in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and worked for the College of Arts and Sciences as a communication graduate assistant. In this role she wrote stories, maintained the college’s website and assisted with social media efforts. Among her many responsibilities, she served as the project leader for the college’s recent Discover Your And campaign.

Bateman said that she believes the College of Arts and Sciences’ diversity strengthens the bonds within the college.

“We are the largest college at MSU; yet, we have this sense of community that makes us feel small. I see faculty members and department heads from different departments interacting as colleagues, but also as friends and that makes me proud to be a member of this college,” Bateman said.

She continued, “In our college, you can receive a broad well-rounded education, but it all connects together. For example, you can study history and biology, and even though they are separate fields, students can bridge different subjects together to create their own educational experience. That’s what makes our college different, and that is what I want to share with future students.”

Nicole Rader, the interim associate dean for academic affairs, said that Bateman’s education and experience gives her the perfect skill set for this position.

“We are so excited that Hannah Bateman is joining our team as our new admissions coordinator. She is a passionate and hard-working coordinator who brings many strengths to the table,” Rader said. “Her background in both communication and public administration, as well as her knowledge of social media, are all strengths that will help us recruit and retain wonderful students in A&S.”

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at MSU and is home to 14 departments. With more than 5,000 students and 300 faculty members, the college offers students 25 academic programs.

MSU is Mississippi’s leading university, available online at www.msstate.edu.
