Free NSF communication workshop Aug. 29
The intersection of scientific discovery with everyday life and its impact on society will be explored during "Science: Becoming the Messenger," a special event presented by the National Science Foundation.
The communication skill-building workshop will be held Aug. 29 at Mississippi State University in the Colvard Student Union's Foster Ballroom.
Principal investigators, early-career researchers and engineers, graduate students, post-docs, and public information officers from public and private colleges, universities, and community colleges in the state of Mississippi are invited to attend this free workshop to learn more about communicating research advancements and scientific discovery to the media and general public.
The program and presenters will strengthen participants' abilities to communicate more effectively with non-technical audiences. (For more, see http://www.research.msstate.edu/sciencemessenger/.)
"We are excited about the opportunity to host this National Science Foundation event, and are looking forward to having a great turnout from around the state for it," said David Shaw, Mississippi State's vice president for research and economic development.
Registration ends Aug. 22, 2011.
A limited number of principle investigators and researchers will be invited to participate in day two of the workshop, during which time they will receive more intensive training. To be considered for the second session, please follow the instructions on the online registration form.
